The Day Shelter of St. Vincent de Paul is located at 1623 Convention St in Baton Rouge and is where the women, men, and children that sleep in the Sweet Dreams and Sweet Dreams Expansion Shelters go during the daytime hours.
Neighbors at the Table are the lifeblood of the shelters. We are so very grateful to the individuals and groups that take their valuable time and resources to purchase or prepare a delicious meal for the participants in the shelters. Participants are heartened that strangers are willing to go to great lengths to sustain them in such a generous and loving way.
Meal Guidelines
-Meals should includeone meat, one vegetable, and one starch
-Desserts and beverages are optional
-Paper goods are provided
-Please be prepared to serve up to 30 people
-Pleaselabel all meals: “Day Shelter”
We encourage Neighbors at the Table tostay and serve the mealand enjoy fellowship with participants. If you choose to stay, please bring enough food for your volunteers as well.
ARRIVAL TIME:We ask that the Neighbors at the Table arrive at the Day Shelter of St. Vincent de Paul with the meal ready to be served at 10:45AM
Directions and Parking
If you plan to drop off your meal, the drop off location is located at 1623 Convention Street. Pull up on the concrete slab in front of the black wrought iron gate, enter the gate and knock on the single glass door. The Day Manager will come with a cart to retrieve the meal. If you are staying to serve the meal, you should park behind the pharmacy on the circular drive close to the black wrought iron gate. Whether dropping off the meal or staying to serve the meal, Day Shelter Manna Givers coming on Saturdays and Sundays should phone the Day Shelter Manager to tell them you are on the premises so that they can come with a cart and assist you with the meal. Volunteer Guidelines
-Volunteer groups arelimited to 10 people
-Minors must be 14 years or older and accompanied by an adult
-AMinor Volunteer Waivermust be printed, signed, and brought on the day of service
- Please do not take photos or videos of our shelter guests
-Hair coverings and gloves must be worn while handling food
Health & Safety: Please do not enter the shelter if you are feeling unwell. The safety of our volunteers, staff, and participants is our highest priority.
