St. Vincent de Paul Sweet Dreams Expansion Shelter Manna Givers

The Sweet Dreams Expansion Shelter located at 1623 Convention Street in Baton Rouge provides shelter for families in need of a safe place while attempting to gain independence.

Manna Givers are the lifeblood of the shelters. We are so very grateful to the individuals and groups that take their valuable time and resources to purchase or prepare a delicious meal for the participants in the shelters. Participants are heartened that strangers are willing to go to great lengths to sustain them in such a generous and loving way.

Manna Givers are asked to prepare a meal that includes a meat, vegetable and a starch. Desserts and beverages are optional and we provide the paper goods. We encourage you to stay and serve the meal to the participants and have fellowship with them. If you choose to do this, please bring enough food for your volunteers to enjoy as well.

We would like to limit the number of volunteers to ten. Minors MUST be accompanied by an adult to volunteer. A minor volunteer waiver must be printed, signed and brought with you on the day you volunteer. A group of six minors may be accompanied by an adult that is certified to work around vulnerable populations. With your safety, the safety of staff and our participants paramount in all of the decisions we make, volunteers are required to wear long pants (or capris for ladies), a shirt with a sleeve and close toed shoes.

We ask that the Manna Givers arrive at the Sweet Dreams Expansion Shelter of St. Vincent de Paul with the meal ready to be served at 5:45 PM. If you plan to drop off your meal, the drop off location is located in the Dining Room of St. Vincent de Paul located at 220 St. Vincent de Paul Place. Enter the Dining Room parking lot that faces Florida Boulevard and is surrounded by a black wrought iron fence. There is one door accessible from that parking lot. Drive to the door and knock on it. The meal will be retrieved. PLEASE LABEL THE MEAL FOR SWEET DREAMS EXPANSION DOWNSTAIRS GUESTS. The Night Manager for Sweet Dreams Expansion will come with a cart to retrieve the meal. If you are staying to serve the meal, you should park behind the pharmacy on the circular drive close to the black wrought iron gate. Whether dropping off the meal or staying to serve the meal, you should phone the Night Manager to tell them you are on the premises so that they can come with a cart and assist you with the meal. Please do not enter the shelter if you are not feeling well. The safety of our volunteers, our staff and participants is paramount.
