St. Vincent de Paul distributes Bags of Hope to people in need 365 days a year. Guests take a bag as they exit the Dining Room after having lunch. For most guests, the Bag of Hope is their evening meal.
We make these bags on Monday's, Thursday's and Saturday's from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM in the Dining Room of St. Vincent de Paul. We would like to have 8 volunteers on Monday's, Thursday's, and Saturday's to assist in making the bags. Children that are at least six years old are welcome to be Bags of Hope volunteers as long as they are accompanied by an adult. A MINOR VOLUNTEER WAIVER MUST BE PRINTED OUT, SIGNED AND BROUGHT WITH YOU WHEN YOU COME TO VOLUNTEER. A group of six minors may be accompanied by an adult that is certified to work around vulnerable populations. If you would like to learn more about this, you may call Connie Planche at 225-383-7837, ext. 302.
As a Bags of Hope volunteer, you might make sandwiches or you might break large bags of items down into smaller portions in Ziploc bags.
If you decide to sign up to be a Bags of Hope volunteer, we ask that you arrive in the Dining Room of St. Vincent de Paul at 8:30 AM. With your safety and the safety of our staff paramount in all of the decisions we make, volunteers are required to wear long pants (or capris for ladies), a shirt with a sleeve and close-toed shoes. PLEASE DO NOT VOLUNTEER IF YOU ARE NOT FEELING WELL. THE SAFETY OF OUR VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF IS PARAMOUNT. If you are unable to come on the day you signed up, please remove your name for the Sign Up Genius so that another person will have the opportunity to volunteer.
We are so grateful that you are partnering with St. Vincent de Paul to provide hope and sustenance to some of the most vulnerable members of our community. If you have any questions, please phone the Volunteer Coordinator at (225) 383-7837, ext. 201
