Who We Are
Bishop Ott Shelter Program provides safe, emergency shelter for adults, children, and families, day and night, keeping our neighbors off the streets. We operate multiple shelters on our main campus at 1623 Convention Street, with an additional overflow shelter for extreme weather and emergencies at 2550 Plank Road.
As a critical part of Baton Rouge’s continuum of care, we offer more than a bed. Guests receive meals, clothing, hygiene items, showers, laundry services, case management, job counseling, and access to essential services, all guided by a Housing First approach that focuses on achieving permanent housing. Each year, we provide over 30,000 nights of shelter and serve more than 1,000 adults and children.
Since 1991, we have treated every guest with dignity and respect, offering a hand up, not a handout. By meeting basic needs and supporting employment and savings, we help individuals and families move toward stability and self-sufficiency.
What We Do
Volunteers for our shelter program assist with dignity events, shelter beautification opportunities, and resources through our Readiness and Resilience program.
