The Sweet Dreams Shelter located at 1623 Convention Street in Baton Rouge provides shelter for women and children in need of a safe place while attempting to gain independence.

Manna Givers are the lifeblood of the shelters. We are so very grateful to the individuals and groups that take their valuable time and resources to purchase or prepare a delicious meal for the participants in the shelters. Participants are heartened that strangers are willing to go to great lengths to sustain them in such a generous and loving way.

Meal Guidelines

-Meals should include one meat, one vegetable, and one starch

-Desserts and beverages are optional

-Paper goods are provided

-Please prepare for up to 30 people

-Please label all meals: “Sweet Dreams Guests”

We encourage Manna Givers to stay and serve the meal and enjoy fellowship with participants. If you choose to stay, please bring enough food for your volunteers as well.

Volunteer: Bags of Hope - Sandwich Makers, Thursday and Saturday

Overview:

St. Vincent de Paul distributes Bags of Hope to people in need 365 days a year. Guests take a bag as they exit the Dining Room after lunch; for many, this is their evening meal. Volunteers help prepare these bags, which may include a beverage, peanut butter crackers, a granola or breakfast bar, and a piece of fresh fruit — all donated items.

Schedule:

Days: Thursday, Saturday

Time: 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM

Location: Dining Room, 220 St. Vincent de Paul Place, Baton Rouge, LA

Volunteer Needs:

Monday: 10 volunteers

Thursday & Saturday: 20 volunteers

Ages: Children may volunteer if accompanied by an adult.

Minor Volunteer Waiver: Must be printed, signed, and brought on the day of service.

Check-In & Instructions:

When you arrive, please make sure to sign in via the sign-in book or by scanning the QR code posted throughout the dining room.

A member of the dining staff will greet you and provide instructions for the session.

Overview

Do you love to organize? Volunteers at the St. Vincent de Paul Gonzales Thrift Store play a vital role in helping process donated items that support our mission. By assisting with sorting and organizing donations, volunteers help ensure items are prepared for sale, allowing St. Vincent de Paul to provide critical services to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Volunteer Needs

Volunteers per shift/day: 6

Ages: Minors (age 14+) may volunteer but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Minor Volunteer Waiver:
Must be printed, completed, signed by a parent or guardian, and brought on the day of service.

Group Guidelines: A group of six minors may be accompanied by one adult who is certified to work around vulnerable populations.

Tasks

• Sort through donated items
• Organize items for processing and sale
• Assist staff in preparing items for the sales floor

Upon arrival, please check in with a staff member who will provide instructions for the volunteer shift. Be sure to scan our posted QR code to verify your hours.

Overview:

St. Vincent de Paul distributes Bags of Hope to people in need 365 days a year. Guests take a bag as they exit the Dining Room after lunch; for many, this is their evening meal. Volunteers help prepare these bags, which may include a beverage, peanut butter crackers, a granola or breakfast bar, and a piece of fresh fruit — all donated items.

Time: 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM

Location: Dining Room, 220 St. Vincent de Paul Place, Baton Rouge, LA

Volunteer Needs:

Monday: 10 volunteers

Thursday & Saturday: 20 volunteers

Ages: Children may volunteer if accompanied by an adult.

Minor Volunteer Waiver: Must be printed, signed, and brought on the day of service

Enter from Florida Boulevard and St. Vincent de Paul Place.

Park in the dining room lot facing Florida Boulevard (enclosed by a black wrought iron fence).

Use the door accessible from this lot to enter the Dining Room.

When you arrive, please make sure to sign in via the sign-in book or by scanning the QR code posted throughout the dining room.

A member of the dining staff will greet you and provide instructions for the session.
